  • High fructose corn syrup - High-fructose corn syrup is a common sweetener in sodas and fruit-flavored drinks. As use of high-fructose corn syrup has increased, so have levels of obesity and related health problems.  High fructose is found in baked goods, canned fruits, dairy products and most sweetened beverages.

  • Aspartame - Aspartame is a white, odourless powder, approximately 200 times sweeter than sugar, used in a number of foodstuffs throughout the world and has been linked to obesity.  Aspartame is converted by the body into formaldehyde, a cancer causing chemical.

  • Trans fat - Trans fat is considered to be the worst type of fat you can eat, also called trans-fatty acids - both raises your LDL ("bad") cholesterol and lowers your HDL ("good") cholesterol.

  • Food dyes - Commonly used food dyes, such as Yellow 5, Red 40, and six others, are made from petroleum and pose a “rainbow of risks.” Those risks include hyperactivity in children, cancer (in animal studies), and allergic reactions

  • Processed, fatty and fried foods
